My story began 50 years ago in New York, when a young 15-year-old girl and a 17-year-old boy became parents on a chaotic New Year’s Eve in 1973. A fight between my parents led to my mom falling down the stairs and going into premature labor. From the very first day, my life was a battle—and that battle shaped the strength I carry today.
